No deliberating needed--Twelve Angry Men is a hit. Broadway.com has learned that the Roundabout Theatre Company is extending its production of the Reginald Rose play originally scheduled to close at the American Airlines Theatre on December 19 through March 27. Sam Shepard's Fool For Love, which was expected to begin performances at the venue in mid-January, has now been delayed until fall 2005.
In Twelve Angry Men, a young delinquent awaits sentencing for the manslaughter of his aggressive father. One juror feels that there is a "reasonable doubt"--to the frustration of his 11 colleagues--thus preventing a quick verdict. During the heated deliberations, the hidden preconceptions and assumptions of the jurors are revealed. When faced with playing the hangman, each juror is forced to face himself.
Fool for Love takes place on the barren edge of the Mojave Desert, where two lovers, holed up in a seedy motel, battle for absolute power in their love-hate affair. Passion rages into the wee hours, until the unspoken secret behind their attraction is revealed, proving how dangerously simple it is for anyone to become a fool for love. Ed Harris is set to direct the Roundabout production. "The postponement [of Fool for Love] is due to scheduling conflicts with casting and Mr. Harris' commitments to other projects at this time," according to a production statement.
A production spokesperson could not confirm the extension of Twelve Angry Men.
